Note: Before going ahead with the download, you need to know that it is a complicated process and would need some prior knowledge of SFTP and SSH. You may also have to operate some commands directly from its root which could be dangerous for your device. This is why we are giving this warning beforehand and suggest you to use this manual method to install Cydia only if it is absolutely vital. It is also advisable to keep a back-up of all your important files, just in case any operation goes wrong and you end up losing all the data on your device.
Another point to note before installing Cydia is to make sure that your device which supports either iOS 8 or iOS 8.1 is already jailbroken. Cydia cannot be installed on a device which is not jailbroken. The following are the steps:
  • First you should download the file for Cydia deb from the following link , as well as the file for cydia-lproj from the following link onto your Windows desktop or Mac desktop.
  • Now these files to your particular iOS device using SFTP. For Mac users, Cyberduck has to be downloaded and installed whereas for Windows users, WinSCP should be downloaded and installed.
  • Make sure that both the Windows machine/Mac system as well as your iOS device are working on similar Wi-Fi connections. Now go to Settings-> Wi-Fi and click on the ‘i’ option located next to where your network’s name is specified. This will give your device’s IP address, which you will have to note down somewhere for using in the next steps.

  • Next you open either Cyberduck or WinSCP (depending on which machine you are using), by typing in the IP address which you had noted down in the previous step. You also need to enter a username (root) and password (alpine).
  • A file browser will be shown to you, in which you can put both the deb files in any particular location that you wish.
  • Hold Ctrl + T (on Windows) or Command key + T (on Mac) to begin a command line session with SSH. Use the cd command to direct the system to the folder where you earlier stored the deb files.
  • Next step is running the following commands in the same order: ‘dpkg-i cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb’ and ‘dpkg-i cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb’ (do not add the quotes).
  • In this step you may receive a warning stating that a dependency is missing. In this case, you will need to download the dependency in a manual way using this link and redo all the commands again. Now you should be able to install Cydia after entering the commands listed in the previous step.
  • Restart your device. If all the steps have worked correctly, then you should be able to see the Cydia icon on the homescreen.
We know that the steps are not very simple and many will find it hard or may end up in errors, if you are facing any problem do let us know in the comments below, we will try our best to help you out. As with any other jailbreak tutorial proceed at your own.
